How to Connect a Bot to Google Speech

Through Bot Libre, your bots my use Google Speech for text-to-speech. This "How To" will give you a step by step guide to connect your bot with Google Text-To-Speech. 

Step 1 - Create a Bot

First you must create a bot that you want to connect to Google Speech, or you can use one of your existing bots. To create a bot, follow the instructions here: How to create your own chat bot in 10 clicks. 

Step 2 - Create a Google Account

Click the "Get started for free" button to create an account, or sign in if you have an existing one.

If you have an existing Google account, you can sign in. Otherwise, click the Create account" link.

Fill out the form with your information. Click the "Next" button to continue when ready.

You will then need to verify your email address by entering the code that was sent to your email. Click "Next" to continue.

Now enter your birth date, gender and phone number (optional). Click "Next" when complete.

Step 3 - Sign up for Google Cloud Platform

Enter your country and agree to Google's terms of services. Click "Continue" when ready. 

Enter your payment information for billing purposes. Click "START MY FREE TRIAL" when ready to continue.

Step 4 - Create the Text to Speech service

Open the navigation menu in the top right hand corner and select "APIs and Services".

Click on "ENABLE APIS AND SERVICES"

Search for "Cloud Text-to-Speech API" and select the corresponding option 

Click on "Enable"

To setup the billing for the API select "ENABLE BILLING" then choose the billing account you prefer to use for this service.

Then click on "Credentials" on the left side navigation bar. Now click on "CREATE CREDENTIALS".

Select API key and then copy the generated API key for later.

Step 5 - Connect to your Bot Libre Bot 

Return to the Bot Libre website and navigate to your bot's admin console by clicking the gear icon in the bottom menu.

Next, click the "Voice" link.

Select "Google Speech" from the "Speech Provider" dropdown.

Enter the API Key that you copied in the previous step into the "Google Speech API Key" field.

Click the "Test" button to test that you have entered these values correctly. If you receive an error message, double check that you have entered the values correctly from the Google portal.

Click "Save" when you are finished.
